My Progress 10/26

    To this point, my project has been more difficult then I expected at the start.  I believed that the filming would be the easiest part of my project to get out of the way, but that is not the case.  At this point in the semester I had planned to be done with my filming for almost two weeks.  Unfortunately, the Buffalo weather has not been cooperating and I have struggled to film both guys and girls soccer. 

    I have been forced to adjust my project schedule.  Because I have been able to get a significant amount of volleyball footage, I will focus on editing this now while filming other sports instead of waiting till all my filming is done.  I hope to be done with this section over the next week and a half.

   Also I have now decided to film the hockey team.  In addition I will be combining the guys and girls soccer into one section.  This will permit me to still have three sections of video while also making filming easier. Hockey is proving difficult to film, but I am excited at how interesting this part of my video could turn out.

My Idea For the Semester

    My idea for my capstone project revolves around me filming my own footage, which allows me to increase my skills in cinematography, and then creating a final product from this footage using Final Cut along with Adobe After Effects and possibly Maya to incorporate special effects and other elements that can increase the quality of my video.

    I plan on going to several of Canisius College’s sporting events to record the games for my footage.  I then plan on cutting that footage down into the quality footage that I will be using in further production.

   Ideally I want to get in contact with Canisius’ athletic department in order to obtain some help from them.  I want to be able to get close to the action with my camera so I can get dramatic shots to help my video be more in depth.  Also It would be an amazing opportunity for me if they choose to use it for promotional purposes for themselves. 

   After I cut down my footage, I will arrange series of clips in a montage type video, separated by each sport, along with music, game sounds, and possibly some interviews.  I want it to be able to draw the viewer in with an up beat video that can get their heart rate going with an intense, fast paced video.

   When all of my clips are arranged I plan on using After Effects to create the intro scene along with different transitions and creative effects added to the footage that I have organized.

   I have used After Effects to create still images and also to create some motion graphics, but I have never used it to edit recorded footage.  I am going to use this opportunity to expand my knowledge of After Effects and apply it to my work.

  If I complete with my goals with some time to spare, I want to try to also integrate my knowledge of Maya into my project.  Possibly creating a replica of the Canisius mascot or something else related to my project.

  I am going to do this on my own with no help from another.  This is a choice I have made because I have a vision that I want to create myself and I also do not think anyone else is working in the same fashion that I am.

   I hope to achieve a well-refined final project that I can use as my main portfolio piece and take pride in while showing potential employers my work.  I want viewers of my work to be drawn in and really entertained.  Creating a project that other people can appreciate will make me feel that I have truly accomplished something great.
